Another scene, after the castle’s collapse:
the long drive.
The nails which hold color to sky
splinter as we drill past them
& the yellows, the reds,
they flake off the trees.
With each one shivering down past the wind,
its decomposition makes the earth fuller,
colder. The water or the air
glints in the rearview.
Before the set received a final
coat of paint, there were moths
in the light, & rust in the dark corners.
There was a fading kind of laughter, life.
